Inspiration
As college students living through a Pandemic, the stress of both realities has led to mental health deterioration in many of our peers.
What it does
As opposed to connecting people, our web application seeks to help individuals deal with the consequences of isolation through self-care tactics. Our users will develop a daily habit of declaring positive affirmations to themselves in order to improve self-worth and self-confidence. Also our website features a Mental Health section that offers third party resources for our users to engage with.
How we built it
We built our website on Glitch, using jQuery, Javascript, HTML and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
A few challenges we ran into were creating buttons to be uniform across all web pages, adjusting the creators profiles to be in a straight row, as well as adding a working calendar to our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to link several different webpages together, embed an actual calendar into our website, and also have a overall universal theme across all webpages. Also we are proud of our use of modals.
What we learned
Through this project and hackathon, we learned how to collaborate and brainstorm as a team in a productive and supportive way. As a whole, we expanded our knowledge on how mental health greatly impacts students, especially during a pandemic. We were able to use this information to implement a website on a platform that most teammates have never used before. We learned a great deal more about connecting HTML, Javascript, and CSS together in order to create a working website!
What's next for Voice of Reason
Moving forward we plan to expand our company to different platforms such as a mobile application so that students can utilize it from every location. On the app, we plan to add an attribute where the user can make a video when getting their quote of the day. As the user makes these videos, the app will compile a monthly video, where one can look back on the ups and downs that they experienced and reflect and improve themselves for the following month. Additionally, we hope to add more resources to the website in the mental health tab and fix some of the styling in the CSS. Moreover, as a team, we intend to gather input and have some beta testers try out the site to improve its overall functionality and user-friendliness.
