I'm Nethra, an 8th grader from John Adams Middle School. I love English class, as do most kids. But the things that kids find the most boring in English class are Spelling and Vocabulary. So my project will help English educators make spelling and vocabulary a lot more fun, by turning it into a game. Because kids love games! The inspiration for this project is the old game of hangman, but to make it less gruesome, we're going to use hearts. You start with a number of hearts, and you lose one for each wrong guess. To do this project, I first created a text file with words and meanings that I found in the public domain word lists. Then I read the file and pick a random word. Each correct letter guessed is shown in the word spaces, and each incorrect guess loses heart. I keep giving feedback to the user based on how their doing, as well as a score based on how soon they guessed the word. When the game is over, there is also a high score feature. it records local high scores in an encrypted text file, and it also gives an encrypted code that can be submitted to a website, which I have not developed yet.
