Inspiration

This project draws from the rich history and folklore of 1500s Walachia, especially the legend of Vlad the Impaler. We wanted to merge historical context with vampire mythology, creating a unique gaming experience. Influences include classic RPGs like Castlevania and Diablo, which inspired the combat design.

What it does

The game is a 2D top-down (WASD keys) RPG set in 1500s Walachia, where players assume the role of Vlad, a vampire seeking revenge against the Ottomans who destroyed his family. It will feature real-time combat, a dynamic inventory system, and a branching text-based narrative that immerses players in the story.

How I built it

We built using Eclipse in Java. Our team members split into groups with 2-3 of us rotating and working on the code whilst the rest worked on game design and what we needed to do next.

Challenges I ran into

Challenges we ran into include, trying to troubleshoot the program, eclipse is a new platform for all of us especially since our team is mostly comprised of beginners who have none to intermediate experience coding. This caused us to divert a lot of attention to understanding our errors and programs especially when experts weren't able to troubleshoot as well.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of trying out more advance code and getting the hang of eclipse. We are also proud of our graphics and cover art and hope to finish the project in some near time so we can showcase our other cool graphics.

What I learned

Through this project, we learned the importance of iteration in game design, as it was key to refining mechanics and balancing difficulty.

What's next for Vlad

Currently, Vlad is incomplete, the movements using (WASD keys) are the only thing up so far, the rest of our code is written down and the rest is in planning. This includes fights, inventory, storytelling, and more.
