Inspiration

In terms of inspiration, approximately one month ago India experienced a massive crisis as the large population faced overcrowding issues with their limited healthcare facilities. Additionally, the residents faced more difficulties receiving necessities such as oxygen tanks, making it harder for the people to survive. As a whole, the pandemic as a result of the Corona Virus caused mass pandemonium to ensure, which inspired us to join the hackathon in the first place. Viewing more and more people struggling to find medical aid is what led to us choosing "Access to Healthcare" as our track to innovate about.

What it does

What we did was create a mass website that will compile many different and unique aspects in order to more efficiently aid patients, most notable the unemployed, uninsured, and poor, with direct consultations, speedy and more accurate self-diagnosis, and information. Our aspects include multiple directories that will contain emergency service numbers and hotlines in order for immigrants and other travelers to foreign countries, in addition to specialized software that will decipher images to diagnose patients with physical ailments. We also aim to have the website be able to be more accurate with more advanced AI and technology as the rise of the Internet is underway in this age, that will be a cheaper alternative for people who are unable to regularly visit a healthcare institution. There will also be translation and speech to text options that will appeal to the international demographic.

How we built it

How we built our pitch was to create a demo website through google sites as it was the most convenient platform to allow everyone to work on it at the same time, as well as java script code to demonstrate the questionnaire aspect of the project. We also want to have specialized AI that will be able to achieve our image analysis proposals, as well as connect to satellite data in order to have the website give locations of healthcare facilities if additional help is necessary.

Challenges we ran into

In the duration of the hackathon event, a major challenge we ran into was the pitching and execution of code as we are all high school students with only one of us knowing anything about coding. In our spitball session of ideas to one another, many were shut down as being too controversial or not possible to fully implement that would be supported by investors or desired by the government to solve the issues surrounding access to healthcare. In the end, our team landed on a safer option that would address the issue in terms of accessibility, as well as not be overly controversial to the point of being too idealistic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Overall, we are most proud of what we accomplished with about no experience coding, pitching ideas, or learning anything about economics and business in school. We managed to come up with a consensus that does include unique aspects and create a demo prototype of what the official website would include. Additionally, we are also proud of how we managed to finish a 5 minute video pitch within the limited time period of around 30 hours since the start of the hackathon.

What we learned

Through this unique experience, we learned how difficult it is for people to pitch new ideas to investors, and how hard it is to come up with an original idea that is feasible and desirable enough to garner investors to support.

What's next for VIVA

As a team, our next step for VIVA check is to expand to a larger platform as an app that is accessible to everyone in the world, with the advanced AI necessary to achieve the software we desire for our project, as well as integrate satellite data to locate facilities for people to go to with appointments through the website. VIVA all the way to be used regularly around the world where our name comes from the idea of life and happiness, demonstrated through our hand-created logo of an Ankh that symbolizes life, the world as we hope to be universal in use, and a red cross to associate with the healthcare aspect of the team.
