Inspiration

Though we all know that vitamin and minerals are essential nutrients for our body, very limited number of persons has good understanding of different vitamins, their functions in our body and their sources. Also many times vitamins are refereed by some alternative name which people don't understand. VitaminOPedia is a solution for these problems.

What it does

This skill can give the user complete information of the vitamins. It can provide the alternative names of them, the major functions of them in our body and also the source food items for each one of them. One can ask the whole information at once or can ask for specific information. The data is taken from FDA approved source.

How I built it

I built it using Amazon Alexa skill kit and Node.js language. The program is hosted on AWS Lambda.

Challenges I ran into

I faced challenge to collect the information about the vitamins and arrange them properly.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I really liked the end result, it is easy to use and guide people with the important information about vitamins. People can learn about the source of different vitamins and take them as and when necessary.

What I learned

I have learned a lot, The information about Vitamins are really helpful and can be used on daily basis. Also I faced a some technical challenges which got resolved and I learned that section.

What's next for VitaminOPedia

As of now only vitamins are added, but future plan is to add minerals as well which is another necessary nutrients.

The invocation name for VitaminOPedia skill has been updated to "Complete Vitamin Guide" as per the suggestion from Alexa team. So now the example phrase for calling this skill would be "Alexa, ask complete vitamin guide what is the function of Vitamin A" or "Alexa, ask complete vitamin guide the source of Vitamin B12"
