VITAMAX Inspiration As a nurse practitioner, I see every day how confusing the world of vitamins and supplements can be for patients. Walk into any pharmacy or supermarket aisle, and you’ll find dozens of products with different doses, labels, and health claims. Most people don’t know whether they’re taking too little, too much, or even duplicating nutrients across multiple products.
The Problem: “This confusion isn’t just about wasted money—it can harm health. Too little vitamin D can weaken bones; too much iron can cause toxicity. Age and sex matter, but the labels don’t always make that clear. Right now, there’s no easy way for consumers to check whether the supplement in their hand actually matches what medical guidelines recommend.”
The Solution (Your App): “My idea is an app that acts as a vitamin and mineral dosage checker. Users can scan or search for any supplement product, and the app will compare its contents against the medically recommended daily allowances (RDAs) for their age and sex. The app will: • Flag if the dose is too low or too high. • Show safe upper intake limits. • Identify overlapping ingredients across multiple products. • Provide evidence-based recommendations in plain language.”
Why This Matters: “This app empowers communities to make safe, informed choices about their health. It helps reduce the risk of vitamin deficiencies and toxicities, improves patient education, and builds trust by connecting consumer choices to actual medical standards. Ultimately, it’s about bringing clinical guidance out of the exam room and into people’s everyday shopping decisions.”
Closing: “With this tool, we want to simplify nutrition safety for everyone—whether it’s a parent buying for their kids, an older adult managing multiple supplements, or anyone just trying to take better care of their health. As a nurse practitioner, my mission is prevention and education. This app brings both together, right in the palm of your hand.”
