Inspiration

I wanted to build a nice, serene scene, and I liked the look of some city scapes that were present in the backgrounds of lofi playlists. I knew I wanted to draw something with a redish purple and dark blue color scheme to reflect the colors of the main character, Topaz, to make him fit in his home environment.

What it does

It provides as a nice hub world, a concept for a city one would want to explore. It’s a place that’s always moving, and a place one could easily get lost.

How we built it

Originally, it wasn’t meant to be a perfectly straight and geometric shapes. The brush used was more rudimentary. I prepared and tested a plethora of preset color schemes until I found one that I felt reflected the energy of the character best.
I then layered the colors, starting with the sky, then stacking the secondary scheme lightest to darkest as it goes toward the foreground. After the basic shapes were in place, I used a grid tool to add the straightedge feel and add texture and details in the environment to give it more flare.

Challenges we ran into

It was challenging trying to find just the right color scheme, and figuring out how to arrange colors properly so they do not clash, and flow in a satisfying way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud of being able to start this for the sake of giving a character a fitting home.

What we learned

This project would be the start of a new personal method of creating colorful and interesting 2D environments. This was the beginning for other pieces of similar aesthetics.
