Inspiration 👾
We designed the web app as a way for people to help and keep track of their health. The web app was designed to make it easy to read and understand with sleek and minimalistic design.
What it does
The VitalEssence web app combines multiple aspects of existing health and wellness services and combines it into one central hub. Some features include a medication lookup service, fitness recommendations, and a fitness tracker. We have customization options so that people of all ages who have access to the internet or a phone can receive this important information.
How we built it 🏗️
We built VitalEssense using React, MongoDB, JavaScript, and of course some HTML and CSS. We also added some extra features such as incorporating Twilio API for notification and progress updates.
Challenges we ran into 😓
We ran into many problems while trying to add any new features. Any time we imported something new to add it would break something else. Eventually we found our work arounds and solutions to make an exceptional web app. We also had the problem of narrowing down what data we wanted to display from OpenFDA. OpenFDA has been a great tool but it provides some very specific and in depth detail that may be too complicated to read for some users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🍾
We were most excited to get API data straight from OpenFDA which is an API that the FDA provides that has medical data about drugs that is updated weekly.
What we learned 💡
In this short weekend we have learned valuable information such as team collaboration. We spent all weekend designating tasks to each other and if we hadn't we couldn't have finished. We also learned many skills pertaining to programming from each other. One group member may be stronger in front-end while the other may be stronger in back-end, we overcame this through communication to link all parts of the project into one.
What's next for VitalEssence 🤖
We believe with some feedback from the sponsors and judging panel we can take steps to expand our reach and features.
