Inspiration

We were inspired by the healthcare providers and front-line workers who work tirelessly to provide citizens with medical care every single day, especially during this pandemic.

What it does

Vital Support will provide users the fastest available first aid care in the case of emergencies. The app is primarily targeted towards drug users who are susceptible to overdose. During an emergency, it locates the nearest first aid certified volunteer who can provide them with immediate help until the ambulance gets there. The volunteers are located using Google Maps and it lets the user know how long it would take them to get there and how far away the ambulance is which is called upon immediately after the user states that he/she needs emergency assistance. It also collects medical history of the user so they can be better assisted during emergencies.

How we built it

We built this app using the Figma framework under the Android option. Our app incorporates aspects of Google Cloud through our use of Google Maps to track the location of our users to provide quick and easy assistance.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into include coordinating with teammates through a virtual platform like Discord. We encountered difficulties with video and audio clarity through the course of the project. In terms of our app we had difficulty in ensuring the safety of the volunteers and the reliability of those taking part in this service.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of the end product of our app. Overall, it is visually appealing and completes the desired task. The demo of our app is an accurate representation of what users can expect to see. The overall completion of this project within the given time frame is what we are most proud of.

What we learned

During this experience, we learned more about Google Cloud as well as Android app development. We also learned about the growing issue regarding drug overdoses country-wide.

What's next for Vital Support App

Vital Support will continue to improve security through block-chaining and secure more partnerships. Then as the brand grows, Vital Support will expand to more regions and countries and even accommodate for additional services that will apply for more health issues.
