Inspiration
Collecting health data for your doctor or self-interest is sometimes elaborate if you have no smart devices. So you have to take nodes. Keep the nodes in view and remind your self to take nodes.
What it does
Vital Data Collector is an app that helps you collect analyze your health data without taking manual notes.
How I built it
Create an Android app and add OCR libraries. Use standard Android technologies to store the data. Use chart libraries to create nice statistics for the user.
Challenges I ran into
Standart Andoird OCR or Tesseract is not able to process seven-segment displays without (manually) editing the images taken by the phone camera. OCR has some problems with the gaps between the segments.

We got a lot of text from OCR :)
What I learned
OCR works nicely for standard text, but not for segmented texts.
What's next for Vital Data Collector
Implement an algorithm to that is able to detect seven-segment displays
- blood pressure
- blood glucose
- weighing scale
