Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was the desire to solve the problem of hospitals refusing to respond to victims of criminal attacks due to a lack of police report. In our ideation process, we discovered that there were other issues pertaining to emergency response in the healthcare system. These problems were a lack of transportation facilities, knowledge of first aid and the right hospitals to take the victim in an emergency.
What it does
Our product provides a solution to the problems stated above by providing a website backed by AI. To ensure inclusivity, we incorporated the use of USSD to provide these services to those who do not have access to smartphones or internet. The solutions provided are: generation of police report, first aid guide, emergency drivers and best hospital recommendation all tailored to the specific emergency reported using AI.
How we built it
Design process: We designed the product using Figma and narrowed it down to a website as we know in cases of emergencies, mobile applications and the processes that come with them will not be suitable. Development process: We built this solutions using Django, React, Tailwind, Open AI API, NodeJS and MongoDB.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges in the functionality of the USSD and integrating the Artificial Intelligence API.

We.re proud to have worked on this project, designed a great interface and to have come this far and worked hard.
What we learned
We learned how to work as a team, work under pressure and our skills have also been sharpened.
What's next for Vital Aid
We are looking forward to creating partnerships with the police and Emergency Response Africa that will facilitate these services. We also look forward to adding health insurance features for the business aspect of the platform as a feature for the future.
