Inspiration

After watching my great-grandfather, Bert, painfully take his vitals three times a day and try new medications, something had to be done.

What it does

Vital uses long-term health and blood data to assess patient risk and provide data to doctors for the purpose of adjusting drug doses. RealAlerts feature analyzes a patient in real time and alerts EMS of potential heart attacks and falls after first checking with the wearer.

How we built it

We used the new FitBit OS to build a native fitbit app for data collection and alerts. We built a companion app that runs within the fitbit mobile app to allow alerts and reports to communicate with our database and web app. We adapted a web app template into the current dashboard where doctors can view reports and suggestions for all their patients.

Challenges we ran into

Hosting the Web Dashboard online ended up being the most challenging part of the weekend (thanks for the help mentors).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Between the beautiful data visualizations and recommendation/risk algorithms, Vital is a product we're all proud of.

What we learned

Building for a user that has a very different experience than our team meant that use cases were a wonderful learning opportunity. Building for accessibility meant learning how to minimize on-boarding and maximize reliability.
