Inspiration
My background is in engineering, but I've always held a deep curiosity for medicine. This personal experience sparked the core inspiration for Vitae: to create a platform that democratizes medical knowledge. I envisioned a space where anyone, regardless of their background or formal education, could explore and learn about medical concepts. The goal was to break down the barriers that often make medical information feel inaccessible, and to provide a welcoming environment for learning at one's own pace.
What it does
Vitae offers three core functionalities:
- Free Medical Courses: Provides accessible educational content on fundamental medical topics.
- Medical News Blog: Delivers current medical news and research in a straightforward format.
- Chatbot Support: Offers basic medical information and resource guidance through an interactive chatbot.
How I built it
The website was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend and Python for the backend. The chatbot was implemented using Gemini API.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges was time, I spent considerable time thinking about what to add to draw in viewers. Another challenge was creating a user interface that was both informative and easy to navigate.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
I am proud of creating a platform that provides free, accessible medical education and information. I'm pleased with the user-friendly design and the integration of the chatbot for instant support.
What we learned
I learned the importance of clear communication and information design when dealing with medical topics.
What's next for Vitae
I plan to add the option for anyone to create course offerings to include more specialized topics. and aim to enhance the chatbot's capabilities with more advanced AI features. Also intend to develop a community forum for users to connect and share information.
