Inspiration

The need to code and learn how to push a project in 24hrs was my main motivation. However, the data visualization is, now more than ever, an important topic. We are constantly expose to data and we need, even in our daily life, to understand what this data is telling us. That's why my main focus was to make the data meaning obvious in a first glimpse. By choosing a red and a blue color for the final plot I visually helped to show decreasing and increasing sales, respectively.

What it does

It shows the year, month or week sales of a company in a visual and attractive manner.

How I built it

In a first stage, I used Python3 to code an algorithm that could distinguish when the sales have decreased or increased, and thereof show it visually.

Later, via HTML5 I created a very simple webpage that could show my Python code. There, it is possible to see the logo I created via Procreate.

Challenges I ran into

I never code in html5 before and the last time I coded in Python, to write a complex program, was many years ago, so I had to solve many many problems along the way.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • To have found a nice solution to the problem I faced.
  • To have created an attractive concept for the app and visually presented it.

What I learned

HTML5, Python and creation of a brand

What's next for viSuALES

There are many things to improve, starting by expanding the user experience, adding more details and to improve the flow through the web-page. The next level would be to generalize the app for any person, it doesn't need to be only a company who analyze its sales, but perhaps a normal person who wants a visual and creative way to look at his monthly expenses, or savings. I truly believe that with a bit of more time this could be a very nice and user friendly app to visualize data, and the best of all, you don't even need to know statistics or math! The colors will guide you through the hard part!
