Inspiration
In hope of coming back to school this fall, my project may be helpful to students who are signing up for classes fall 2020.
What it does
The user completes the questionnaire on when their class starts and ends, and fills the appropriate time blocks in the table with a chosen color. This allows the user to enter up to four classes and view their schedule as a time block table.
How I built it
I used html5 and css to build my page (table, forms, etc.), and javascript to functionalize it. I also had to use jquery to optimize my javascript code to be neat and organized.
Challenges I ran into
In the beginning I had a different idea for a project which involved creating a schedule based on the user's preferences for online classes. I later realized that I could pivot to create a minimal class schedule instead.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I was able to pivot from one idea to another in a short period of time, learn the skills required for my new idea, and finishing it in time.
What I learned
I learned a lot about javascript and jquery and how to use them. More importantly I got better at quickly researching information on coding and get the most out of it.
What's next for Visual Class Schedule
After this hackathon is over, I would like to add features to my project such as seeing the class name, and entering other life commitments into the schedule. Another interesting addition would be to have an option where you can view an alternative schedule of an online class option (this would be very useful because we still do not know if we will come back to school this fall).
