Vistara was inspired by the growing disconnect between modern travel and Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Despite being home to hundreds of vibrant cultures, local stories, traditions, and manuscripts are becoming increasingly inaccessible in today’s digital world. Tourists are often overwhelmed by scattered information and miss out on authentic experiences. We wanted to change that. With Vistara, we aim to bridge culture, technology, and tourism—helping people explore Indonesia with deeper meaning, personalization, and impact.nspiration

❓ What It Does

Vistara is a smart digital tourism platform powered by AI and real-time location data, designed to transform how travelers experience Indonesia. It empowers users to plan trips, explore heritage stories and manuscripts, translate local languages, and connect with communities and local businesses. Key features include:

🗺️ Destination Explorer – An interactive map with detailed information about cultural sites, including historical manuscripts and stories. (Also Using 360 Camera)

📖 Manuscript Detail Viewer – Snippets from ancient texts (e.g., Nagarakretagama, I La Galigo) translated and re-narrated with AI.

🌐 NusaLingo – A smart translator that converts voice, text, and images into both local and international languages.

🤝 Local Connect & CultureSync – Feature to find and support local businesses (UMKM), culinary spots, tour guides, and real-time cultural events with in-app ticketing.

🧠 Smart Trip Planner – An AI-based system that creates personalized, full-day itineraries based on traveler preferences, location, and budget.

🛠️ How We Built It

a. Frontend

React Native – For cross-platform mobile development with responsive, high-performance UI.

TailwindCSS – For consistent and efficient styling.

b. Backend

Golang – Chosen for lightweight and scalable API performance.

PostgreSQL – A robust relational database for managing complex data like destinations and user trips.

Supabase – Used for object storage and media delivery (e.g., manuscript images).

Midtrans – Integrated for secure and localized payment transactions.

Gemini AI – Powers the historical storytelling, personalization engine, and smart translation.

🤔 Challenges we ran into

a. Data Integration – Connecting historical, tourism, and local business data into a seamless user experience.

b. User Personalization – Creating relevant, AI-based recommendations that feel tailored and accurate.

c. Time Constraints – Building a complex, multi-featured app in a short hackathon window required intense focus and prioritization.

d. Cultural Representation – Ensuring content reflects Indonesia’s diversity respectfully and accurately.
