Inspiration
Planning a day out means balancing interests, group size, accessibility, opening slots and the total cost. VisitorPlan brings those decisions into one request and makes the proposed plan clear before the visitor confirms it.
What it does
A visitor describes a day out in plain English or uses the structured preferences. The simulated assistant checks the whole group's budget and remaining places, allows travel time between activities, and proposes a connected itinerary. Confirmation rechecks capacity and records a demo reservation. The visitor can see their reservation history and cancel a reservation to release its places.
How we built it
The application uses Python, JavaScript and SQLite. A real MCP 2025-11-25 service runs over Streamable HTTP. The assistant discovers and calls tools for inventory, planning, confirmation, reservation history and cancellation. Configured Gemini language interpretation converts a natural-language request into planning preferences; structured controls also work without that service. Reservations and inventory changes persist in SQLite.
Challenges we faced
A price that works for one person can exceed a group's budget. A plan can also become unavailable before confirmation. We handle the group total explicitly, include travel time, recheck current capacity at confirmation, and make confirmation idempotent so a repeated request does not create a second reservation. Cancellation returns the places to inventory.
What we learned
A useful assistant needs clear constraints and explicit confirmation. Language interpretation helps visitors express what they want, while the planning and reservation tools enforce the actual dates, capacity and budget.
What's next
We would connect a real inventory provider and an Amazon Alexa+ integration, expand preference handling, and continue accessibility testing.
Demonstration boundary
This is an independent simulated Alexa+ experience. It is not connected to Amazon Alexa. Attractions, prices and reservations are fictional demo inventory. No real venue is booked and no payment is taken.
