Inspiration
We are a group of students who are passionate in finding solutions to combat climate change and achieve environmental justice. Our dynamic mapping platform, VisionWorks, was brainstormed during a weekend over pizza, as students, we realized the importance of being proactive to fight against climate change. We took the initiative to build a map detailing air pollution hotspots across Long Island’s towns within a few days. And when testing our product, we were alarmed to find that air pollution levels were much higher than we expected, motivating us to deliver the best product possible.
What it does
It tracks real time air pollution and displays the results on our map.
How we built it
Using React to build the front-end and Python to build the back-end
Challenges we ran into
Creating the map and displaying real-time data on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating that same map and being able to display the real-time results.
What we learned
The front-end developers learned to use react.js and css and back-end developers learned to data scrape and use python to organize the data into a map.
What's next for VisionWorks
Expanding the amount of locations displayed on our map outside of Long Island so people around the world can be more aware of the pollution surrounding us.
