Inspiration

I created VisionGuard AI to explore how computer vision can make video inspection more accessible and easier to use. Reviewing video footage manually can take time, so I wanted to build a prototype that helps users visualize movement in video through a simple, interactive dashboard.

What it does

VisionGuard AI is a video-inspection prototype built with Python, OpenCV, and Streamlit. It uses computer vision-based motion detection to process video frames and highlight moving regions.

The dashboard includes inspection modes for workplace and warehouse safety, restricted-area intrusion, road and traffic monitoring, and general-purpose video inspection.

Depending on the implemented features, users can review processed video and access event-reporting functionality.

How I built it

I developed the application using Python for the core logic, OpenCV for video processing and motion detection, and Streamlit for the web-based interface. NumPy and Pandas support the application's data-processing and reporting workflow.

I also deployed the dashboard using Streamlit Community Cloud and published the source code on GitHub to make the project easier to access and review.

Challenges I faced

As a beginner, one of my biggest challenges was bringing the different components together and making the application work in a live environment. Resolving Python package dependencies during deployment was an important learning experience.

I learned how to structure a project, work with computer vision libraries, build an interactive dashboard, troubleshoot deployment issues, and prepare a project for public demonstration.

What I learned

Building VisionGuard AI helped me understand that developing an AI-related application involves more than writing code. It also requires testing, debugging, deployment, clear communication, and an honest understanding of the system's capabilities and limitations.

What's next

My next goal is to improve the motion-detection workflow, evaluate its performance on different video conditions, and explore more advanced computer vision capabilities.

VisionGuard AI is an evolving prototype. Its current motion detection highlights moving regions; it does not independently confirm the identity of people or vehicles, accidents, or safety violations.

I built this project as an opportunity to learn, experiment, and turn an idea into a working application.
