Inspiration

Our inspiration to create the website Vision Vergent was mainly due to our friends. Since they suffer from dysgraphia and other neurodiversity conditions, we realized the community knows too little about what neurodiversity really is. Therefore, we wanted to make the information more accessible to society.

The inspiration for creating the app was the need to spread awareness about climate change and its implications on our planet. The need to increase the accessibility of climate change is a must-do in our books, as our Earth comes closer and closer to being inhabitable each day.

What it does

Vision Vergent focuses on the different conditions of neurodiversity as well as vision deficiency. There are 5 navigational tabs in total. (Homepage, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Color Blindness, and About Us). The homepage has a slider of the 3 conditions above and mainly covers the topic of what neurodiversity is. The next 3 tabs dive deep into what they are, how to acknowledge them, and a link leading to a test. Under the Color blindness, there's a link that leads to another webpage with information on the different types. There is further 3 more navigational bar that talks about the 3 most common types. (Deuternopia, Protanopia, and Tritanopia) Lastly is the about us page, which talks about the purpose behind the website along with a message and feedback section.

This app informs the user about climate change, how our actions impact climate change, and the steps we as a community can take to do our part to reduce our carbon footprint.

How we built it

The website was built with the software Notepad++. The languages used were: HTML, CSS, and Java

We built the app using Android Studio, while XML, and Java were the coding languages used.

Challenges we ran into

We faced multiple obstacles while making the website. The most annoying one being absolute paths. Using absolute paths made it so that the images can be only viewed if they are on your laptop under the same username as ours. Therefore, we had to change each image code to relative paths so that other people who have the folders downloaded could see it. Another challenge was the formatting. Since notepad++ doesn't focus much on formatting it was really hard to get the pictures or the logos to where we wanted. That's why we came up with the idea of using  . This line of code lets the user leave a black space. Lastly, notepad++ has very few customizations with font styles and others, so we needed to download a separate file and use it as a plugin to change the font style.

During this process, we ran into an issue with formatting in which the content was overlapping. Moreover, when the app transitioned to the horizontal view any formatting would be non-existent.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we are proud of understanding the main issues of absolute and relative paths. Since we can finally understand the reasons why others can't view the images you have coded down. We are also proud of the work we did together collaboratively to finish building the website in time.

We are proud of understanding how to utilize the relative layout to solve the formatting problem.

What we learned

We have learned how to use relative paths, how to make sliders, how to make a navigational bar

We learned how to various layouts for formatting in Android Studio, along with Java

What's next for Vision Vergent alongside Climate Action

Vision Vergent's next step is to increase the number of conditions of such cases. We plan on making just 2 navigational bars and under those making multiples around 10-20 conditions. Not just that, we plan on making the website more interactive by adding a discussion forum. Where people can discuss in a particular section.

The next step for climate action is to create an interactive menu to enable users to communicate and encourage each other and the addition of a carbon calculator to allow users to measure the implication of their actions. Alongside a calendar which shows different events and meetings of climate change being held.
