Inspiration
We wanted people with visual impairments such as colorblindness and shortsightedness to be able to use online platforms without any discomfort or issues just like we do.
What it does
We made a browser extension that would change the color of images and websites to match the person's colorblindness and a sizer that would increase and decrease the size of text to make it easier to read. The main use is for browsing/shopping online for people with visual impediments.
How we built it
We coded some of it on Tampermonkey and used AI to enhance and assist in debugging our code.
Challenges we ran into
The colorblindness code would incorrectly change colors of images or websites. In addition, the text resizer would make the text smush together and make it even harder to read.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The colorblindness browser extension changes the color of images properly to match the 3 different types of colorblindness. It took a long time to properly master the code and we are very proud that it properly works.
What we learned
We learned the importance of persistence in coding as well as how to more effectively detail code to produce the desired results.
What's next for Vision Impairment Mitigator
We plan to edit how the back of textboxes change to black rather than moving to white, as well as work on implementation on videos, not just websites & images.
