Inspiration
QR codes are everywhere, but users usually cannot see where a QR code will take them before opening it. We wanted to make this process safer.
What it does
The system scans a QR code, extracts the URL inside it, and checks the link for potential security threats. It then tells the user whether the link is safe, suspicious, or malicious.
How we built it
We built the project using Python, QR code detection, URL analysis, DNS checks, and threat-intelligence services such as VirusTotal.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was making the system detect different types of suspicious URLs without treating every unusual link as malicious.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a simple security workflow that checks a QR code before the user opens its hidden link and explains the reasons behind the result.
What we learned
We learned how QR codes can be used in cybersecurity, how to analyze URLs for suspicious patterns, and how different security signals can be combined to assess a link.
