Inspiration

As creators ourselves, we know that knowing where to start on a project can be the biggest challenge in achieving your vision. With our design, we hope to alleviate problems associated with this challenge. We were inspired by our personal challenges with the design process and organization, and we hope to help not only our users, but ourselves, as creators, with this project.

What it does

VisDev is a website designed to guide a user through the design process, giving them tips and guiding questions, in order to complete their vision to the best of their ability. Hence, this combination of vision and development is titled 'VisDev'.

How we built it

The beginning of our thought process was completely inspired by the prompt we were given for Art & Design. We decided on our idea, spent our time developing our idea, and perfecting variations on it. Our variations were majority sketched out with pen and paper, with the proposed elements of of site written as a list in pen. Then, we began coding (in HTML and Javascript), debugging, and writing our information for the website.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a few challenges during this challenges. First off, we came into this event with little experience for the majority of our team members. For all of us, this was a really valuable learning opportunity, especially with those of us who did work with the mentors available to us. We also had a lack of computers which, admittedly was on our part, but still required maneuvering to get around. Another big pain was that one of our computers had a lot of trouble running the style tag for some of the elements, requiring a couple of hours to work around and fix.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud that we have a finished product to show for our work. We definitely think we collaborated pretty smoothly to write our code and design our product. We learned a lot about troubleshooting, and became more confident in our coding skills as a whole. Within collaboration, we also learned a lot from each other as well as the mentors, we came in with different skillsets, and will leave with a broadened and enlightened understanding of the range of different coding areas.

What we learned

We learned a lot from this challenge. We came into it with very limited knowledge about HTML and Javascript code, as well as limited knowledge about the design process. Additionally, we did now know about each other as teammates. Coming out of this challenge, we have gained confidence in coding and in our cooperative skills, as well as our strengths and weaknesses when working with a time limit.

What's next for VisDev

With more time to work on this project, there are several additional features we will add which would further help our users. These include:

  • The inclusion of more information in more accessible ways such as other languages
  • A chatbot to provide personalized tips and add accessibility
  • Collaboration between users, allowing for the sharing of information and inspiration
