Inspiration
One of our teammates’ mothers works as a doctor in a hospital, assisting the paralyzed.
What it does
We made software for paralyzed people in hospitals to have an interface related to their needs and wants during their time there.
How we built it
We searched for multiple hours for a facial recognition API. After all of that, we found one that fulfilled our needs on GitHub, and we implemented it. We also used JavaScript, TypeScript, and React to code the entire interface, controls, and integration of the facial recognition software.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge was that cursor movement relative to the moving face was not actually inputting how we wanted it to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were finally able to make software that accurately reads facial input and could improve the lives of paralyzed people while hospitalized. This took a very long time, but we pulled it off.
What we learned
We learned how to manage time under the harsh deadline and adapt quickly under the pressure of a clock.
What's next for Visage Health
We plan to expand and improve on this by adding an on-screen keyboard capable of multiple key presses simultaneously. This could lead to numerous additions relating to quality of life.
