Inspiration
I wanted to make the OECD Better Life Index more accessible and engaging by allowing users to explore well-being indicators across countries in a visually intuitive way.
What it does
Vis-Plot lets users interactively compare countries, track trends over time, and analyze correlations across health, education, safety, income, environment, and life satisfaction measures.
How we built it
We built the app using Plotly Dash, leveraging interactive charts like radar plots, grouped bar charts, heatmaps, and scatter plots. Dynamic filters allow users to select countries, measures, demographics, and time ranges.
Challenges we ran into
Handling a large and diverse dataset while keeping interactions smooth was challenging. Normalizing measures for meaningful comparisons and designing intuitive filters for multiple dimensions also required careful planning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I created a fully interactive, user-friendly dashboard that allows users to gain actionable insights from OECD well-being data, highlighting patterns and disparities across countries and dimensions.
What we learned
I deepened my understanding of data normalization, interactive visualization design, and how to present complex multi-dimensional data in a way that’s both informative and intuitive.
