ViruSim

Fighting SARS-CoV-2 with education.

The problem your project solves

The current pandemic affects everyone and comes with massive implications on our lives and the global economy. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to understand the complex scientific processes that happen with infection.

The solution you bring to the table

A simulation showing the route, course, and prevention of infection, can be an easy - thought effective - tool in fighting the pandemic from the ground up. We believe that everyone deserves to understand the scientific process that happens in our bodies; only then, we can counteract misinformation and help people make the best decisions to protect themselves and their community.

What you have done during the weekend

  • Developed the prototype from scratch
  • Created a scientifically proven storyboard with texts
  • Designed homepage, brand design including logo and colors

The solution’s impact on the crisis

Our simulation is an easy - though effective - tool that helps everyone understand the course of infection.

We believe that knowledge can fight the pandemic from the ground up; it eradicates misinformation and irrational fear, so people can make informed decisions on how to protect themselves and their communities.

The necessities in order to continue the project

Since this is an open-source and non-profit project we’re foremost looking for the following:

  • Feedback
  • PR
  • More contributors

The value of your solution(s) after the crisis

After the pandemic will be before the pandemic. Studies have shown that more than a thousand, highly diverse Coronaviruses might be circulating. Transfer from an animal to a human can happen anytime with the right mutation. Our tool informs everyone what is happening in our bodies in case of an infection. The simulation can eventually show different viruses, treatment options, and prevention through vaccination. All of this helps fighting misinformation and protects individuals and their communities.

We further hope that it sparks interest in life science and encourages young people to become aspiring researchers.
