Virtus

A friendly tool for all small businesses during the pandemic.

Inspiration

Our inspiration behind this project was the problems that many small businesses in our community and communities all over the country are facing. We were inspired to make Virtus as easy to use and accessible so those who need a safety tool can have one. Our user interface is simple and adaptive and our database takes care of the business needs such as how many customers they have, appointments, and resources.

What it does

Our website has many features that can help small businesses. One of the features is a customer tracker and table so the business can keep track of customer influx. Another feature is employee temperature tracking to make sure that all employees are healthy when coming to work. Another feature is being able to see featured businesses and customers being able to donate to all companies who are signed up.

Our website allows businesses to sign up for an account and create a descriptive profile Customers can view all businesses and donate to them. On the business side, management can look at a map of local help, resources and more. They can also track employee health, customer influx, and more within the database. The user interface is intuitive and simple to use for everyone!

How we built it

We built the database with Apache, PHPMyAdmin, and MySQL. We created the website with HTML/CSS/JS. It was our first time creating a database and working with personalized data. We also used Stories by Freepik for all of our graphics.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were with the database and integration. We faced problems with sessions and using PHP to make tables. Since we had limited time, we didn't have time to implement everything we wanted to. It was our first time working with databases but we are very proud of the end result!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments we are proud of are the login and sign up page because we managed to successfully make the front and back end work. We also managed to create a personalized dashboard and a donation page which we think can greatly help businesses.

What we learned

We learned how to create a working database using Apache, PHPMyAdmin, and MySQL, we also learned how to make a personalized dashboard.

What's next for Virtus

We believe that if we get the chance to expand we can be able to greatly impact small businesses around the city. We want to be able to add time slots and and be able to have customers book businesses, we also want to be able to have businesses collaborate with other businesses, so they can find resources that are working for others and so they can share information about how to deal with this pandemic.
