How to view Virtual Tutor

To run the program, I recommend using a java IDE such as IntelliJ and downloading the GitHub repo submitted below. From there, you can make HTTP requests such as POST (input new data), GET (retrieve data from a database), PUT (edit data), and DELETE (remove data) using postman. Use request URL localhost:8080/api/v1/Person to create and edit user profiles. Use request localhost:8080/api/v1/Schedule/(id), where (id) is a user's ID to view their customized schedule. Finally, you can browse a calendar of available times using localhost:8080/api/v1/Calendar.

What it does

The backend takes user input through HTTP requests. Students submit their grade, subjects they want to be tutored in, and a weekly schedule including the hours they are available. Tutors do the same except and the program then matches students and tutors based on the times they are available at. Users can create and edit their profiles and schedules, retrieve a personalized schedule from the database, and also browse what times other tutors/students are available. In this way, it efficiently pairs up students and tutors to be able to set up sessions.

How we built it

I created a RESTful style API using Spring Boot, a java framework for a back-end program of a tutoring website. It has four main classes, each representing a layer: the client, the API layer, the Service layer, and the Data Access layer. Spring injects dependencies into the layers to allow for flexible and loosely coupled classes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm very happy that it works and runs smoothly. In the future, I will likely add a frontend so users can actually interact with the program.
