Your Team Name

Team VSR

What challenge(s) you’re responding to,

COVID has forced exams / tests / interviews to be remote and now all of these important things are not as trusted as before.

How your project addresses the challenge

My project demonstrates a “VR Secure Room” (aka VSR) for exams / tests / interviews. The VSR isolates users from the outside world and only the approved calculator and test materials are present inside the virtual room. My design has sound isolating inner ear headphones measure and verify inner ear pulse synchronization against forehead pulse measured by VR headset. Also while using VSR your eyes iris are scanned to track your identity and a look down wide angle camera monitors hands and ambient sounds. To help VSR users feel comfortable, their visual scenery and sound isolating soundscape are changeable and a stress toy is supplied.

What technologies (languages, platforms, APIs, hardware, sponsored tools, etc.) you used,

Software:

Hardware:

  • Oculus Gear VR Kit + Google Pixel 3
  • MiBand 3 Bluetooth LE heart rate sensor measures forehead pulse at VR visor
  • Wide Angle Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 (+ dual microphone) records hands etc under VR visor and ambient sounds in stereo
  • Fiber optic patch cable inner ear “pulse and sound monitors” (non functional)

What you learned

Having just 24 hours you have to be efficient. This year I elected to work solo to avoid the overhead of having to coordinate with a team. Being solo and pressed for time I picked a familiar technology and used tools I know well. Since last year I have been an intern at Qoom Inc. and over the summer vacation I used the same software tools listed above to build a driving simulator

What problems you ran into and how you solved them

Lacking team members and time I prioritized tasks and focused despite feeling stressed. This motivated me to make a squishy stress toy as part of my demo. I created the two sprites for it in a previous hackathon I participated in (here's a link to squishy's first role: "You can Keep the Change")

Anything else you’re super proud about!

I am proud of the brainstorming I did before the event. It is hard to think of ideas that are do-able in 24 hours and I am happy with what I selected.
