Inspiration
As sustainability becomes an increasingly prevalent issue, people are looking for ways to minimize their own carbon footprint, but most are unwilling or unable to make large lifestyle changes to do so. Our project aims to allow consumers in Philadelphia to reduce their carbon footprint by signing up for our service through our mobile app that uses basic information about the user’s home, weather data, and information about the generation fuel mix of the PJM electric grid to make micro-adjustments to their thermostat temperature setting that keeps their home near the user’s reported ideal temperature but makes trade-offs to use less energy (and therefore, less carbon) when the grid is using higher percentages of non-renewable energy like coal and gas.
