Inspiration
The idea for the Virtual Healthcare and Wellness Hub was born from witnessing the challenges my community faced with accessing healthcare during a severe flu season. I was particularly struck by the struggles of elderly residents to make frequent trips to the doctor, which spurred me to think about how technology could bring healthcare into their homes more effectively.
What it does
The Virtual Healthcare and Wellness Hub is a web-based platform designed to enhance access to healthcare services by offering telehealth appointments and educational resources on health and sustainability. The project allows users to easily book virtual consultations with healthcare professionals, reducing the need for physical travel and enabling timely medical advice. Additionally, it provides valuable information on sustainable health practices and environmental wellness, aiming to educate users on how their lifestyle choices can impact both their health and the environment. This integrated approach not only makes healthcare more accessible but also promotes a holistic view of health that includes environmental sustainability.
How we built it
Built using the Flask web framework and other web technologies, the platform offers features like virtual consultations, user accounts, and interactive educational resources. The development process involved careful planning, design, technology selection, and iterative testing to ensure usability and security.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into challenge of sometimes not knowing the syntax for the code and had to look it up, and also there were a lot of errors and bugd to be fixed at first. Another challenge I ran into was having the IDE that I use on my macbook not being able to run the app. I then had to download a whole different IDE for the app to work
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm really proud of the final outcome and that I was able to research and bring my idea into existence
What we learned
Working on this project, I learned the intricacies of telehealth regulations and the technical requirements to ensure privacy and security in digital communications. I also gained a deeper understanding of user-centered design, learning to prioritize the needs and limitations of users when creating digital solutions.
What's next for Virtual Healthcare and Wellness Hub
I'm going to further improve the Virtual Healthcare and Wellness Hub and make it completely bug free and easy to use and run.
