Inspiration: We saw that we've got legacy systems who could serve use in terms of our practical knowledge in aspect of security, thus instead of allowing our colleagues in school get into trouble while trying to test their practical skills we built a virtual lab usable with Virtual machines on individual host systems.
What it does: Allows students practice Ethical Hacking.
How we built it: We got open source tools and community versions of above named software, then used both knowledge of security, networking and software to configure the Virtual Lab.
Challenges we ran into: - Lack of funding to get updated tools and machine to equip the lab with.
- Unstable power supply. - insufficient tools as most tools a commercial and licences
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned: Team work, how to configure and user virtual lab etc
What's next for Virtual Cyber Lab: We hope to get sponsors from cyber security companies who will assist with updated machines used in the cyber industry today. We also hope to get sponsored cyber security courses and tools in our university to improve and groom Ethical Hackers, penetration testers and other security administrators.
