Inspiration

Considering both the Covid-19 pandemic and environmental crisis, more and more of our day to day items have changed, from scannable restaurant menus to cloth face masks. Virtual Business Card aims to further the progress we have made: using a QR code that can be used to save data to your phone not only helps you stay more organized, but also limits contact between people and generates less waste.

What it does

The Virtual Business Card platform creates a digital business card with all of the standard information, if not more. Through our site, a user can create a business card that saves as a QR code. Then, using our supplementary mobile app or the built in phone camera, that QR code can be scanned to display that business card.

How we built it

The web application uses NodeJS Express as the backend. To store data we use MongoDB. The frontend was designed in Figma and Google Slides and built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The IOS application was built using a third party application builder.

What's next for Virtual Business Card

As the development of Virtual Business Card progresses, we hope to design a couple of different templates for the user to choose from to embody the design aspect of paper business cards. We would also like to further design the website and make it more user friendly, and eventually, save the information scanned by the VBC app into the native contacts app on their phone.
