Inspiration

In an age where the global population is aging, the issue of dementia has become an increasing concern. In Singapore, statistics reveal a stark reality - one in ten aging Singaporeans are battling the challenges of dementia. However, rather than succumbing to this alarming statistic, it's time for us to draw inspiration from the possibilities that lie ahead.

As we seek to confront the growing prevalence of dementia among our seniors, our approach is deeply intertwined with the ideals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Ensuring Healthy Lives and Promoting Well-being for All at All Ages.

Dementia is a complex issue, impacting not only the affected individuals but also their families, caregivers, and society at large. Our focus is not just on providing care and support to those already affected but on extending the onset of this debilitating condition, thereby enabling our aging population to enjoy a better quality of life.

Our inspiration is not just to confront dementia but to do so in alignment with UNSDG 3, which calls for healthier lives and well-being for all ages. By extending the onset of dementia, we allow our seniors to lead more fulfilling lives, to remain active and engaged, and to contribute to our society in meaningful ways. Together, let us inspire hope, action, and progress in the pursuit of a brighter, healthier future for all.

What it does

Our groundbreaking app, powered by Machine Learning and Logistic Regression, tackles the challenge of dementia head-on. But its impact goes beyond just assessment. Here's what it does:

  1. Dynamic Database: The app continuously updates a comprehensive database with user statistics, creating a valuable resource for understanding dementia risk factors and trends.

  2. Personalized Insights: By analyzing your cognitive game performance, the app delivers personalized insights on your dementia risk, motivating you to prioritize brain health and seek timely medical checkups.

  3. Cognitive Support: For users with dementia, the app adapts its cognitive games based on your evolving needs, providing tailored support to help maintain and enhance cognitive abilities.

In short, our app doesn't just collect data—it harnesses it to improve dementia prevention and care. It's a powerful tool for both individual well-being and advancing our understanding of dementia in the larger context.

How I built it

Creating our innovative app was a journey that began with a vision for addressing dementia-related challenges. Here's how we built it:

  1. Figma, We harnessed the power of Figma, a collaborative design tool, to craft a detailed mock-up of our app. Figma allowed us to create an interactive and visually appealing user interface.

Figma is a cloud-based design and prototyping tool that simplifies collaboration among design and development teams. It offers the flexibility to design, prototype, and share user experiences seamlessly.

  1. User Flow, the Blueprint: With Figma, we crafted a user flow that served as the blueprint for our app's functionality. This step was essential for visualizing how users would interact with the app, providing a clear path to navigate and understand its features.

Our journey began with design, where every detail was considered to ensure the app's user-friendliness and effectiveness in addressing dementia-related issues. The use of Figma and the creation of a well-thought-out user flow were pivotal in bringing our app to life.

Challenges I ran into

Despite our enthusiasm and determination, there have been significant challenges along the way as we've developed our dementia-focused app. Two critical challenges stand out:

  1. App Implementation: While we've created a compelling mock-up of our app, we haven't yet taken the step to fully implement it as a real, functional application. The transition from concept to a live product is a significant undertaking that requires resources, expertise, and time.

  2. Funding: As passionate as we are about our mission to combat dementia, we've faced the challenge of securing funding to turn our vision into reality. At present, we don't have access to substantial funding that could accelerate the development and deployment of our app.

These challenges serve as reminders of the journey we're on, and we remain committed to overcoming them as we work tirelessly toward our goal of making a meaningful impact in the fight against dementia.
