Inspiration

Kenya is rich in biodiversity, but it faces mounting environmental challenges. Deforestation, land degradation, and climate change threaten ecosystems and communities alike. In 2024, global forest loss reached 6.7 million hectares, mostly from wildfires exacerbated by climate change, releasing 4.1 gigatons of CO₂; more than four times the emissions from global air travel in 2023.

We realized that while awareness is rising, many Kenyans want to act but lack convenient, accessible ways to contribute to restoration. Viridia was inspired by the belief that technology can make environmental action practical, measurable, and rewarding for anyone (students, communities, NGOs, or individuals) turning small, regular contributions into a collective legacy of a greener Kenya.
