Viridi Earth

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project came from a project that I did in my 10th grade. This was a project that would help benefit society, in which I decided to promote growing gardens to help clean the atmosphere. I also played a local challenge with the kids in my neighborhood to see who was able to grow the best plant, and everyone had a lot of fun. When I saw the topic of helping the community out, I instantly thought back to this project and decided to extend from what I had done 2 years ago.

What it does

My program is split into two main parts: knowledge and games/challenges. The knowledge part of the program tells the current situation of a certain resource or the problem (of power, water, waste, and air), as well as how the common person can help make a difference. The games and challenges are physical applications of the topics. Games on the portal would help display the concept of the resource, while the challenges are ways the person can take a game feeling and make a difference in the real world.

How I built it

I first mapped out the different ways the screens can be connected on paper. Then, I created each screen as it would show up on the interface while the user is using it. In order to make it more interesting, I also put different colors for each resource, so water is in shades of blue, air in greys, power in the yellows, and waste as browns

Challenges I ran into

the biggest challenge was trying to remember the various parameters and specifications that I wanted for each part of my program as i was working with tkinter after a very long time

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

getting all screens u and ready to go in such a short time, especially working alone on this project.

What I learned

I learned a lot on the various resources and how much we are actually hurting our planet by just taking things around us for granted. These resources are really rare for others, but we really need to value them more for those of us that have them

What's next for Viridi Earth

adding the actual games as promised and polishing the design, as well as making in another language so that it can be turned into an app
