Inspiration

Virdesk challenged and inspired me to apply my core web development skills while creating something meaningful. As a software engineering student, both my own experiences and those of others — especially the struggles we face in study and work — motivated me to think of and develop this project. More importantly, I built Virdesk with the hope that it could help someone out there. Life can often feel overwhelming, and sometimes even the smallest reminders — whether it’s completing a task, hearing calming music, or reading a kind message — can make a big difference in helping someone keep going.

What it does

Virdesk is a productivity tool that helps users stay focused and balanced. It features a Pomodoro timer for structured work sessions, a to-do list with a growing plant as a visual progress tracker, a focus mode with zoom-in to minimize distractions, ambient audio for a calming work environment, and a rest section with motivational reminders and a cat companion to encourage healthy breaks.

How we built it

I built Virdesk using vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to keep the project lightweight and easy to understand. By not relying on frameworks, I was able to strengthen my fundamentals and ensure that every function was written from scratch. For deployment, I used Netlify, which provided a smooth process for hosting and automatic updates whenever changes were made.

Challenges we ran into

  • Implementing interactivity with pure JavaScript while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
  • Designing a minimal interface that is both visually appealing and functional.
  • Learning the Netlify deployment process and configuring the project for a smooth launch.

Accomplishments that we're proud of
