Inspiration
Our project, Viral Stand-Off was based on old western movies, and the challenges given for the Hackathon.
What it does
Our game has the player fight against waves of viruses and scams to earn points and coins, allowing the player to buy items from Shady Jim so that they stand a better chance against stronger, merging viruses and scams.
How we built it
We built Viral Stand-Off using GameMaker and its native GML coding language. Because of this in-built language, we spent little time trying to translate the game into other coding languages or scripts.
Challenges we ran into
With any good game engine, every now and again you will encounter a bug or a glitch. GameMaker is very prone to bugs or glitches when coding, and it caused us to spend time we could have used working on another system fixing them. Another challenge we faced was the time constraint of 24 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One accomplishment we are proud of is the merging system. This system allows viruses to merge together or with other objects found within the game, corrupting them. The system uses a script it runs for tracking, merging and changing the object it interacts with.
What we learned
Don't pull an all nighter.
What's next for Viral Stand-Off
Viral Stand-Off's future is undecided, however it was a fun project to work on
