Inspiration

We realized how much time people spend every day on logistical tasks like replying to emails, ordering food, and calling customer support. Despite all the AI advancements, there wasn’t a truly seamless personal assistant that could handle everything. We wanted to build something that could act like a Chief of Staff for everyday life—especially for people who can’t afford a real one. That’s how Vira.AI was born.

What it does

Vira.AI is an AI-powered executive assistant that handles daily logistics for you. It can automatically read and respond to emails, schedule meetings, order food, book flights, and even make phone calls on your behalf. Users interact via voice or chat, and Vira handles the rest—end-to-end. It’s like having a full-time assistant, but powered by smart automation and voice AI.

How we built it

We used a combination of Claude and Gemini for LLM-based reasoning, and ElevenLabs for natural, human-like voice synthesis. Azure’s speech-to-text powers voice input, while Twilio lets Vira make and receive real phone calls. We integrated with Google Calendar and Gmail APIs for scheduling and email management, and used Zapier to connect to food delivery and travel booking services. The whole system is tied together with a lightweight Node.js backend and a React frontend.

Challenges we ran into

Handling multi-step voice interactions and keeping context across tasks was a big challenge. Integrating reliable phone-based actions with Twilio took time, especially ensuring Vira could speak naturally and understand human responses in real-time. We also had to figure out how to safely manage user credentials for email and calendar access while maintaining speed and responsiveness.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that Vira.AI can make real phone calls, respond in a natural voice, and autonomously manage emails and calendar events. Building a system that could tie together voice, text, LLMs, APIs, and real-world action into a single assistant was complex, but incredibly rewarding. Seeing it book a flight or handle an annoying phone call without us lifting a finger was a moment of real magic.

What we learned

We learned how hard it is to build a truly useful AI product—especially one that has to operate across so many systems. We gained experience in voice AI pipelines, prompt engineering, and API orchestration. We also learned how important user trust, security, and graceful failure handling are in tools that do real-world tasks for people.

What's next for Vira.AI

We want to expand Vira’s capabilities to cover even more real-world services—banking, ride-hailing, smart home control, and beyond. We’re also working on making it more customizable, so it learns each user’s preferences over time. In the future, we hope Vira can handle all digital chores for people, freeing up their time and attention for what matters most.
