What It Does Vintage ExploreX is a cultural discovery chatbot that goes beyond typical travel guides. Instead of just listing attractions, it connects users to the traditions, stories, and heritage that shape each city. It reveals:

Local festivals and their cultural significance

Historical landmarks through community stories

Neighborhood traditions often overlooked by mainstream tourism

Authentic culinary experiences and their origins

Lesser-known art and music scenes with deep cultural roots

The chatbot adapts to different users—whether you're just looking for weekend highlights or want to dive deep into a city’s traditions.

How We Built It We developed Vintage ExploreX using a three-layered approach:

Cultural Knowledge Framework – We structured a knowledge graph linking neighborhoods, traditions, cuisines, and historical influences to create a meaningful web of cultural connections.

City-Specific Research – Starting with Las Vegas, where we had firsthand experience, we expanded through expert consultations, local archives, and heritage organizations to ensure authentic insights for other cities.

Adaptive AI Conversations – Our chatbot was designed to recognize the intent behind cultural questions. It can distinguish between someone asking about "Vegas shows" as entertainment versus someone interested in their historical evolution.

Challenges We Faced Building cultural content for cities we hadn’t personally visited was tough. While Las Vegas was within reach, ensuring the same depth of knowledge for other cities required extensive research and validation from local experts.

Another challenge was navigating different perspectives on cultural heritage. Many cities have contested histories and evolving traditions, so we had to balance multiple viewpoints while staying true to authentic representation.

Finally, making the content accessible without oversimplifying rich cultural traditions was a constant balancing act. We wanted casual visitors to engage without overwhelming them while still offering depth for those who wanted more.

What We’re Proud Of Our approach has been validated by community members in Las Vegas, proving that even digital tools can foster real cultural appreciation.

We've mapped over 3,000 cultural elements across 15 cities, creating one of the most comprehensive digital resources on living American heritage.

We developed a cultural authenticity scoring system to help users distinguish between touristy experiences and deeply rooted traditions.

What We Learned Culture isn’t something frozen in time—it’s constantly evolving. What started as an effort to document hidden gems in Las Vegas turned into a broader celebration of living culture across America.

We also learned that people crave authentic connections when they travel. The demand for meaningful, culturally rich experiences is much greater than we initially thought.
