Inspiration
As an indie hacker, I want to learn other skills that aren't my engineering expertise. I have an AI-generated 30-day PM bootcamp to self-learn PM mindset. It's effective, yet requires time and effort to follow the syllabus. I'm 1334-day streak Duolingo user. It's effortless. Eureka! If I can learn any new skills bit by bit, persistently, learn small, practice small. It's sustainable.
Therefore, Viler—it's actually the codename, I haven't had a good name for it yet—comes to life
What it does
Viler turns a learning intent to a structured, personalized, updated, gamified courses from any topics in seconds.
How I built it
Initially, I used ChatGPT to test the idea for my 30-day PM bootcamp. It worked, then I created an agent, which created a syllabus from a learning intent.
To overcome the effort intense required by the syllabus, I instructed the agent to gamify the course to bite-sized lessons, practices.
To improve the course quality, and to have updated knowledge with human experience and opinions, another agent will discover high-quality resources. They can be from curated lists or auto-pilot mode.
Challenges I ran into
Outdated knowledge, hallucination are probably the most challenging. Resource pool is gigantic, another challenge is to curate a high-quality set for sourcing.
From user perspective, balance between fun learning and gaming the system is also a concern. Whether the approach works, it takes time to see benefits.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I challenge myself to use AI as much as I can to build the project. And yes, it's 100% AI-co-build—from codes, assets, guidelines to deployment. I did some clicks, some keystrokes, minor modifications. In total, the project is completed within 24 hours.
What I learned
I tried different tools, workflows, found out what fits best for me. I also learned some nuances from the process. I learned to control AI, yet still needed to push it to the limit. I also learned to be more patient, to wait for the results, to iterate, to experiment. I self-learned PM mindset, which is a big win for me.
What's next for Viler
- Smarter personalization based on learner behavior and goals
- Become a learning platform with community-driven learning paths and shared "vibes"—templates for creating syllabus, courses, lessons, practices, sourcing good resources, etc.
- More variants of answers, not only multiple-choice, but also open-ended questions, projects, etc.
- Expanding learning paths to longer courses, like 60-day, 90-day, etc.
- Become a new way to learn in AI era
- And more, wow that's a lot
