Inspiration
The harsh feeling of touching freezing cold floor after going out of the bed.
What it does
It monitors your ambient temperature and makes sure your fireplace will always be lit making your home warm and welcoming. When it gets cold an autonomous robot is sent to put more wood into fireplace.
How we built it
- Arduino as robot's brain
- Rapsberry Pi PICO as the robot's remote controller
- Raspberry Pi as the weather station and the main control unit
- Casings made of successfull 3D prints and mostly the cork covers of the merch notepads
Challenges we ran into
Our 3D printer malfunctioned throughout the whole process forcing us to improvise using the tools and materials we found.
We had to use different motors that we planned due to unexpected power issues.
Instagram blocked our API just before the submission rendering one of our features useless.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Completing the project together as the team
- Building an autonomous vehicle
- Smooth wireless communication between three units
- Working out the issues with a dose of creativity
What we learned
- Creating a simple Internet of Things
- Building robots out of duct tape and cork
What's next for Viking Smart Home
- Improved notification system when robot gets stuck.
- Better handling of the robot's sensors
- Building everything with quality materials.
