Inspiration
Imagine a lawyer preparing for a court filing due in just a few hours when a cyberattack suddenly makes their firm's document system unavailable. Critical files become inaccessible. We wanted to solve this problem by building Vigil, a platform that helps law firms keep urgent legal work moving even during a cyber incident. We realized that cybersecurity isn't just about detecting attacks and stopping threats. It's also about helping people.
What it does
Vigil acts as a command center connecting lawyers, the IT Help Desk, and Technical IT during a cyber incident.
- Lawyers can submit urgent file requests, specify deadlines, and track progress.
- IT Help Desk receives requests, monitors incoming work, and routes requests through Photon.
- Technical IT receives alerts, claims requests using SMS replies like ACK and TAKE, and works through resolution checklists.
- NVIDIA Nemotron analyzes claimed requests and provides technical teams with AI-generated recommendations.
- Admins get a unified dashboard showing incidents, requests, assignments, and activity history.
How we built it
We designed Vigil around three main components: a user-friendly frontend, a backend that manages requests and workflows, and AI-powered integrations.
- Lovable: We used Lovable to build the frontend and create separate workspaces for lawyers, the IT Help Desk, Technical IT, and administrators.
- Photon: We integrated Photon into the request-routing workflow to send notifications and allow technicians to acknowledge or claim requests through SMS.
- NVIDIA Nemotron: We incorporated Nemotron to analyze urgent requests after they are claimed and generate actionable technical recommendations.
- Backend: We designed the backend to manage incidents, requests, assignments, status updates, and activity logs so that all users see the same request information in real time.
Challenges we ran into
We ran in issues with Photon API. We wanted to distinguish between acknowledging a request (ACK) and actually taking ownership (TAKE). This distinction is important because acknowledging a request doesn't necessarily mean someone is working on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of how we were able to incorporate Photon and Nemotron into the project.
What we learned
We learned how AI can support real-world workflows, how to design systems around different user roles, and how to connect notifications with backend state changes.
What's next for Vigil
Next we want to add more graphics to the dashboard to make it visually appealing.
