Inspiration

We noticed that students, teachers, and professionals often use different apps for storing, viewing, editing, and sharing documents. Switching between multiple applications for PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, and other files can make a simple task unnecessarily complicated.

This inspired us to build ViewPal — a simple, mobile-first document workspace that brings essential document handling features into one place.

What ViewPal Does

ViewPal is designed to help users view, edit, manage, and share documents from a single application. The goal is to make working with files such as PDFs and presentations more convenient, especially on mobile devices.

Instead of depending on multiple applications, users can use ViewPal as their document companion for everyday academic and professional work.

How We Built It

We built ViewPal as an Android application using Flutter and Dart, focusing on a clean and easy-to-use mobile experience. We worked on document handling, file access, viewing, editing, and sharing functionality while keeping the interface simple for students and everyday users.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was handling different document formats and making the experience consistent across devices. We also had to consider file access, document rendering, editing workflows, and sharing while keeping the application lightweight and easy to use.

Building the project within the hackathon timeline also required us to prioritize the most useful features and continuously test the application on Android.

What We Learned

Through building ViewPal, we learned more about mobile application development, document handling, Flutter, file management, and designing user-friendly workflows. We also learned how to turn a common everyday problem into a practical software solution.

What's Next

We plan to expand ViewPal with stronger document collaboration, cloud synchronization, improved editing capabilities, better file organization, and additional document formats.

Our vision is to make ViewPal a single, convenient workspace for viewing, editing, and sharing documents anywhere.
