FutureHome – Project Submission
Inspiration
Many young professionals want to buy a home one day, but have no idea where to start. The topic feels complicated:
- How much can I actually save?
- Is buying a home realistic for me?
- How long will it take to afford a downpayment?
Existing tools are either too complex or too focused on selling mortgages rather than educating users.
FutureHome was inspired by the idea of creating a simple, friendly way for young adults to understand their financial future in four clear steps.
What it does
FutureHome guides users through the early steps of understanding whether buying a home is achievable for them.
Quiz: Financial Basics
Users answer simple questions about their job, income, rent, and current savings.Insights Screen
Based on the input, we estimate:- potential monthly savings over time
- time required to build a downpayment
- whether their current rent could already cover a mortgage
- a realistic home-buying timeline
- potential monthly savings over time
Dream House Finder (Quiz 2)
Users select their preferred home type, city, and lifestyle. We estimate a realistic purchase price.Roadmap to Homeownership
A step-by-step path:- find your dream house
- save up for your downpayment
- compare mortgages (via Interhyp)
- make a decision
- you made it!
- find your dream house
How we built it
GitHub repo: https://github.com/alihansoykal/future_home We designed a two-stage quiz to capture both financial data and lifestyle preferences. Using these inputs, we developed a savings model that changes over time. Finally, we created a clean frontend showing personalized insights, visual milestones, and a roadmap.
Challenges we ran into
- Balancing simplicity and accuracy in mortgage modeling
- Designing quiz questions that feel natural and not intrusive
- Visualizing financial information in a motivating way
- Keeping the user experience approachable for people with little financial knowledge
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Turning a complex financial topic into a simple, friendly experience
- Producing meaningful personalized insights for users
- Designing a clear roadmap that makes buying a home feel achievable
- Building a working demo tailored to young professionals
What we learned
- How to communicate financial concepts in simple, human-friendly language
- The importance of UX clarity in money-related tools
- How financial inputs shape affordability outcomes
- Effective collaboration across design, engineering, and finance
What's next for FutureHome
- Integrating real house price and rent data per city
- Adding interactive charts for interest rate and savings simulations
- Expanding the roadmap with budgeting tips and government subsidies
- Adding personalized mortgage comparison instead of a simple link-out
- Enabling user accounts to track savings and progress
- Building a mobile-first version
