Inspiration
As college students @UCLA we know the challenges of the dreaded hills, and it's not just us; many other colleges are just like us, which contaminates students with the incurable and often fatal disease of laziness. So, we wanted to give these students plagued by laziness a chance to succeed. Hence we created VidME to prevent them from missing out on opportunities.
What it does
Connects students across campus to resources such as professors, TAs, and even writing centers and much more, and of course, each other, with only a username and a link. NO download, NO confusion, one link. It's that simple.
How we built it
We built this product using a combination of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Sinch API and Heart.
Challenges we ran into
We attempted to develop the android companion app, but noticing how it would take much more time than the web application, we decided to combine our efforts to make the flagship program as successful as possible. -Due to SSL and HTTPS we had issues with launching to heroku
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the product we created in the time that we had, our ability to present it in a professional and marketable way, and the innovative idea of a simple, accessible video call app.
What we learned
We learned the importance of effective communication, teamwork and time management skills.
What's next for VidME
-We want to go worldwide and cross platforms (phones and tablets). -We are currently at UCLA, but we want to expand, first to nearby schools such as Berkeley, Stanford, and even USC.
