We wanted to help girls everywhere feel empowered to pursue their dreams, no matter their background. Many don’t have access to role models, so we used AI to create personalized inspirational videos. These videos match their aspirations with successful women in similar fields, giving them motivation and practical steps to move forward.
Inspiration
Hearing about girls lacking mentors sparked the idea. We wanted to build something that would connect them to relatable role models, showing them their goals are achievable, using AI to scale that globally.
What it does
Our project creates personalized inspirational videos for young girls based on their dreams and aspirations. Using AI, we match their submissions—whether it's text, video, or handwriting—with real role models who have succeeded in similar fields. The platform then generates a one-minute motivational video, tailored to each girl’s background and goals, giving them both inspiration and practical advice for the future.
How we built it
We used Google Gemma to process multi-modal inputs like text, video, and handwriting from the girls' submissions. Google Cloud handled storage and data processing, and AI tools matched each girl with relevant role models. We pulled from a database of pre-recorded role model content to create the personalized videos, while a front end complemented with Google Forms made the submission process simple and accessible.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was ensuring that the AI could handle different formats and languages effectively. Creating personalized videos without the need for new footage each time also required a smart approach to using existing content. Additionally, making the platform accessible offline for girls in remote areas with limited internet access posed a technical challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of building a platform that can make a real impact by inspiring young girls globally. The ability to create personalized, motivational content for each user while ensuring accessibility, even in remote areas, is something we’re especially happy about. The use of AI to match girls with role models in such a meaningful way also stands out as a key accomplishment.
What we learned
We learned how AI can be used to create personalized and impactful experiences at scale. Working with multi-modal inputs expanded our understanding of how to combine different data types effectively. Most importantly, we saw firsthand how tech can be designed with empathy to address big societal issues, like gender equality.
What's next for Videos for Inspiration
Next, we plan to expand our role model database to include even more diverse profiles, ensuring girls from all backgrounds can find someone they connect with. We also want to improve offline accessibility by allowing videos to be easily downloaded and shared in areas with poor internet connectivity. Additionally, we’re exploring partnerships with schools and organizations worldwide to reach more girls and empower them to dream big.
