Inspiration

Avid has the industry standard editing software. Nearly all of the films nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Picture (as well as all the films nominated for Best Editing) were edited using Avid Media Composer.

Theta Networks wants to be the leading blockchain for media and entertainment.

But there is a gap between the Avid video platform and the Theta Network.

What it does

Videopass bridges the gap.

This bridge enables television broadcasters, filmmakers and video post-productions to connect to the Theta Network. From now on, video reporters, filmmakers and content creators can upload video and set up Digital Rights Management (DRM) for their content. And this without leaving their video production environment.

Receive video files from Avid Platform
Transcode High Res to H264 video
Upload files to Theta Network
Collect and update metadata between Avid and the Theta Network
Show progress and status of the video files
Add, change and remove Digital Rights Management (DRM) of video content.
Republish and retranscode video content

Use Cases

Before television programs or films go public, people outside the video editing platform have to preview and approve the raw or final cut. During this state the video content may not leak to the public. Videopass allows users on the Avid platform to set up DRM and upload the content to the Theta Network in one step. The video content can only be viewed by people who have the appropriate DRM.

In news environments, the news reporter wants to quickly publish his "Breaking News" story without leaving the video production environment. Videopass allows users on the Avid platform to upload the content to the Theta Network in one step and ready for the web.

How we built it

First we build a complete Avid video post production platform with the following components

Challenges we ran into

Build a complete video production platform without spending a lot of money on hardware. Tweaking and upgrading RAM and CPU power to get the performance needed to develop and run a test environment. Register Videopass with Avid and receive the temporary licenses needed to build a complete video production platform.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Build a completely new video production platform in a short time and integrate the Videopass webpage as a plug-in in Avid | MediaCentral.
