Inspiration
As a content creator and marketer, I watched peers waste hours on video editing—sifting through raw footage, syncing subtitles, and matching music. I saw a gap: small businesses and creators needed a tool that could replicate pro editing workflows autonomously, so I set out to build VideoEditor AI to make high-quality video production accessible to everyone.
What it does
VideoEditor AI is an autonomous video creation agent that turns raw footage into publish-ready videos for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn. It auto-edits footage, generates 50+ language subtitles, inserts B-roll, matches background music, and optimizes output for each platform—all in 10 minutes.
How we built it
We combined Python for AI logic (footage analysis, music/subtitle matching) with React/Node.js for the web interface. We leveraged AWS for cloud storage/processing, FFmpeg for video manipulation, and speech-to-text APIs for accurate transcription. We built custom logic for platform-specific formatting and quota management for subscription plans.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was syncing AI-generated B-roll and subtitles with video timelines—audio gaps and variable footage pacing broke alignment repeatedly. We also struggled with balancing music volume to prioritize voice audio, and ensuring cross-platform format compatibility without quality loss.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We hit our 10-minute turnaround goal for 30-minute raw videos, achieved 95% accurate multi-language subtitling, and built a seamless UI that requires no professional editing skills. The subscription quota system works flawlessly, and users can fully customize subtitles/B-roll/music post-AI generation.
What we learned
We learned that AI-driven tools need human-centric flexibility—even the best auto-editing needs user override options. We also mastered balancing performance and cost in cloud video processing, and the importance of licensing for music/B-roll to avoid legal risks for users.
What's next for this project
We plan to add advanced color grading AI, integrate more licensed stock media libraries, and build a mobile web version. Long-term, we’ll test direct platform publishing (YouTube/TikTok) and team collaboration features for marketing agencies. We also aim to expand subtitle support to 100+ languages.
