Inspiration
Our project was inspired by the growing lack of accessibility that comes with the global growth of media. We created this project as a means of combatting the unequal access to communication and media that is prevalent in society today.
What it does
Video to ASL Converter takes user input, through video form, and returns a video with the speech in the original video being translated into ASL.
How we built it
We build this project with the use of Python, and, more specifically, the FastHTML library.
Challenges we ran into
Inexperience with web development and issues with learning and implementing a new library with little documentation were among the various challenges that we ran into.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our creation of a functional website that combats the issue we attempted to solve with the time constraints and challenges that we faced.
What we learned
We learned how to use a new and growing Python library (FastHTML), while also developing our web development and collaboration skills. For two of us, it was our first hackathon!
What's next for Video to ASL Converter
Video to ASL Converter has a bright future, with room for expansion in various areas such as website design and expanding the scope of the project to match or even surpass our original idea. In the coming days, we intend to make the website live and make sure we fulfill our original idea.
